This growing issue can be fixed by companionship, and the West Alabama Area Agency on Aging has developed a unique and heartwarming solution. With the help of a grant funded by the Alabama Department of Senior Services, the AAA has purchased robotic pets to help reduce risks of intensifying social isolation – and it is already helping a great deal. The West Alabama AAA has purchased 40 pets and already distributed 28 of them to clients. The robotic pets can interact with their owners through touch and voice activation, brightening the days of those who would otherwise go all day without any interaction.

But a Lovot, which is the combination of "love" and "robot." This robot is a conglomeration of sensors, artificial intelligence, wheels to get around, wings that can flap, and big moving puppie-dog-like eyes, designed to respond to humans and mimic emotions. I say mimic, because these Lovots aren't real live creatures, I think. Yes, this is certainly several steps above hugging your vacuum cleaner, which incidentally sucks.

Industry associations and analysts are a special kind of nuisance. They write research papers with titles like: "A World Without Work;" "Anticipating a Luddite Revival;" "Our Work Here is Done;" "Who Owns the Robots Owns the World;" "Robots not Immigrants Could Take Half of Jobs;" and "AI and Robots Threaten to Unleash Mass Unemployment." These alarmist titles cause news editors to rely on the research papers like fortune-tellers rely on tealeaves. Despite the good intentions of the authors and their predictions the research evidence is limited and primarily correlational in nature, few studies have demonstrated a causal relationship between the impacts of robots on jobs. In the minds of many analysts and researchers, humanity is nearing a robot apocalypse where Robots will have taken over most jobs within 30 years leaving humanity facing its'biggest challenge ever.'
